Team

Two generations. One discipline.

Magellan Equity Partners is built on generational experience: a scientist who built and sold a company, and an engineer who builds and scales them now.

Managing Partner

Runs manager evaluation, vehicle structuring, and investor operations. Engineer by training, operator by day.

Dylan is a mechanical engineer by training, with a B.S. from the University of Florida and an M.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology focused on aerospace robotics and manufacturing.

At L3Harris Technologies he worked on Department of Defense satellite programs in Palm Bay, Florida, spanning structural design and launch mechanics, and on defense space telescopes in Boston, where he focused on program management and optical design.

He was recruited from L3Harris to BlueSky Polymers, a high performance materials company founded out of UNC Chapel Hill, where he leads engineering and commercialization. Building and scaling a company on the operating side is what sharpens his read on the managers and businesses Magellan evaluates.

Dylan invests the assets of Magellan Partners, the Childers family office. He underwrites and runs diligence on opportunities across venture capital, private equity, and real estate. His work determines where the family's capital goes. For the past decade he has helped manage the family office's public market portfolio. He shapes the estate planning and trust structures that carry family capital across generations, and he helps manage the Childers Foundation and its public investment portfolio.

At Magellan Equity Partners, Dylan is the Manager of the firm's vehicles and runs the discipline the firm is built on: the proprietary performance database behind the screen, the manager interviews and diligence that follow, the structuring, the administration, and the reporting of each vehicle from formation to final distribution. Partners work with him directly, from the first conversation to the last capital account statement.

Founder and Partner

Co founded and built Magellan Laboratories, sold it to Cardinal Health, and has invested in private markets for three decades.

Al began investing at the age of twelve, an early interest in markets that grew into algorithmic trading strategies and a lifelong discipline in evaluating risk and return.

In 1991 he co founded Magellan Laboratories in Research Triangle Park and, as President, helped build it into one of the fastest growing private companies in the region, with more than 500 employees and a client roster of over 200 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including nine of the ten largest pharmaceutical manufacturers. He engineered Magellan's sale to Cardinal Health in 2002, at the time one of the largest acquisitions in North Carolina, and went on to serve as President of Administration for Cardinal Health Pharmaceutical Development.

Before Magellan, Al built and directed the inhalation development group at Glaxo and was a Principal Investigator at The Upjohn Company, responsible for analytical development of controlled release, parenteral, and inhalation products. He holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Indiana University and a B.S. in Chemistry from Furman University, and has authored more than 40 publications and presentations.

Since the sale, Al has been an active private investor: a Venture Partner at Southern Capitol Ventures, a board member and advisor to early stage life science companies, and a guest lecturer on entrepreneurship and venture finance at UNC Chapel Hill. He leads Magellan Partners, the Childers family office, which has invested across private equity funds, venture capital, and direct company investments. Investing history

Private markets since 2017.

The partners invest through Magellan Partners, the Childers family office: private equity and venture funds, direct company investments, and a public market portfolio. That experience, from the investor side of subscription documents, capital calls, and distributions, shapes how every vehicle here is built.
